Consular Visa Fee Stamps

Federal revenue stamps were used by overseas Swiss consular offices to serve as receipts for the payment of visa fees due from foreigners seeking permission to visit Switzerland. These pages from the passport of a Turkish businessman illustrate the cancellation of a 10-franc “Chancellerie” stamp by the consular seal. The businessman also affixed to the left-hand page a “Cinderella stamp” souvenir of his visit to the Basel Sample Fair (trade show) in April 1950.
