Ever since the experimental flights of the balloon “Urania” in the 1890's, Swiss philatelists have collected mail carried aboard experimental or commemorative balloon flights.

This balloon flight from St. Gallen to Appenzell was arranged in connection with the NABAG '59 Philatelic Exhibition.
